SPLASHES of colour and deep layers of texture draw the eye to the work of Jack Taylor, upcoming South West artist and soon to be exhibitor at Stormflower Vineyard.
The first exhibition for both the venue and Taylor will feature 25 of the artists’ most loved works.
With 50 to choose from, Taylor said the pieces poured out of him, the drive to create stronger than the will to stop.
Not painting for a number of years, the end of a long term relationship saw Taylor go into creation overload.
Titled ‘The curious works of Jack Lewis Taylor’ the series captivates with quirky ideas and unique detailing shining through.
With an upside down signature and a pearl hidden in each piece as a trademark, Taylor said he took pride in his work and had no qualms in identifying it as his own.
Spiritually driven, Taylor said forcing himself to paint wasn’t an option; he painted when it felt right and the resulting creation exemplified this belief.
“I know that’s what I’m supposed to paint,” Taylor said.
Utilising oils, acrylics, spray paint and recycled canvases, Taylor expressed his mood and ideas spontaneously upon the work, no piece alike yet simultaneously linked.
The environment in which he paints is another creative outlet, with Taylor even painting light bulbs in his studio space so the light upon his work brought out different hues to inspire and change his vision of the piece.
Like many artists, Taylor had feelings of immense joy upon completion of his work, only for it to be short lived and replaced by a hunger to create more.
“It’s all I can think about while I’m in the process (of a work),” he said.
An example of this is his painting ‘Lost Together’ created in a 24 hour time frame after the passing of his father which Taylor said acted as a means to therapeutically convey his experience onto canvas.
The exhibition will kick off on Saturday and run for a month.
