TRUFFLES are renowned as an exotic food ingredient, but it is even rarer to find them utilised in the beverage industry.
Colonial Brewery has taken on the challenge as a part of this year’s Truffle Kerfuffle in Manjimup, creating a truffle inspired beer.
Head brewer Paul Wyman said their pale ale had been infused with the truffles sourced from Manjimup, ready to be paired with the dinners created for the Truffle Kerfuffle event.
“We love the opportunity to work with such expensive ingredients,” he said.
Operations manager Ryan McLeod said two kegs had been created for the Kerfuffle, with one to be utilised at a dinner while the other is available to be sampled by the general public at the event.
Brewery manager Richard Moroney said they had been involved in the festival from its beginnings as supporting grass roots events was essential in any community.
“I believe as a brewery we aren’t in the business of selling beer, we’re in the business of participating in community groups,” he said.
“It’s what communities are about and it’s what breweries are about.”
Mr Moroney applauded the efforts of the festival organisers, a small group of passionate people trying to attract business to the town.
“It’s another example of community helping to build more community,” he said.
“It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of and be immersed with.
“It’s the whole value chain coming together without anything coming in-between; it’s something we’re doing very well in the South West.”
