The Bunbury Bulldogs proved to be too fierce for the Margaret River Hawks netball squad on Saturday and claimed a six point win.
While the Hawks fast open style of play gave them an edge in the first term, to win the quarter 13-9. Emily Bongers demonstrated great strength and creativity in Goal Attack and continued this through out the game to earn the title of Most Valuable Player.
In the second and third terms the Hawks struggled to penetrate the centre court to establish their lead.
Bunbury’s agility and ability to read the play prevented Hawks from taking control even though their effort and focus never left them.
By the end of the third term Bunbury lead 44 – 36, a difficult 8 goal lead.
An injury in the final quarter term enabled Hawks to make a crucial change where Cath Edwards was able to take back the centre position after filling in to assist Hawk’s depleted defense.
Hawks showed Bunbury their full force by winning that term by two goals. However this was not enough to take the game.
Mistakes plagued the Hawks in the middle terms and the team will need to play work on creating more scoring opportunities around the goal circle.
Bunbury had 77 shots at goal with a 68% accuracy where Hawks had only 54 shots but at an accuracy of 81%
Hawks Reserves found it very difficult to competed against a strong, skillful Bunbury team. They did not loose their will to be the best they could but Bunbury out classed them.
