A PLACE to rest your pet’s leash and bring a smile to your dial has surfaced in Augusta with the introduction of “pooch parking” on the main street.
The idea to have a series of decorative poles throughout town for the purpose of pet safety was the brain child of Augusta Street Scape committee member Di Forster.
She asked fellow committee member Lynne Orriss if she could paint a few paw prints onto a series of poles she was creating for the concept as a part of the Augusta Street Scape re-design.
Ms Orriss took the idea to the Augusta Art Club who embraced the project whole heartedly, designing instead a series of poles with familiar canines being the focus of the works.
The star of two of the poles is Holly the Hardware Hound from Augusta True Value Hardware, an iconic pooch from around town.
“We just wanted to do something fun with it,” Ms Forster said.
“It brings a smile to your face.”
The first planted pole can be found near the Augusta Newsagency in the ‘Catchup Corner”, a project in the making by the Street Scape committee.
Ms Forster said the group had plans to place other pooch parking sites near the IGA, the hardware shop and Colourpatch Café.
The Street Scape committee will also celebrate their first anniversary in early August, promising many more projects on the way to brighten up the streets of Augusta.
