Big wave surfer Justin Holland back on his feet after epic Cow Bombie wipeout

Big wave surfer Justin Holland - whose epic wipeout during WA's recent superswell captured global imagination - is back on his feet at a Bunbury hospital.

Holland suffered a broken femur when he was crushed by an 18-metre wave at the big surf hot spot Cow Combie on June 28.

The NSW visitor had two titanium rods inserted in his leg and used his Instagram account on Tuesday to thank hospital staff for their care.

At the time of his injury, the 38-year-old father-of-two was hopeful of returning to the World Stand-up Tour before season's end. And he took his first steps toward that goal this week.
