IT is now even easier to send a postcard of Augusta Margaret River with Australia Post featuring iconic landmarks on a new line of postage stamps.
The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and Cape to Cape track have both been chosen for the showcase collection of great Australian walks and lighthouses.
They sit alongside the Cape Byron Lighthouse in New South Wales, North Reef Lighthouse off the Queensland coast and the Overland Track in Tasmania as iconic locations.
Australia Post philatelic manager Michael Zsolt said Australia and WA was renowned for its picturesque vistas.
"Australians have a love of the great outdoors and bushwalking continues to be a popular activity," he said.
"These stamps will appeal to everyone and especially to bushwalkers and avid hikers who like to get out and about."
Despite advances in nautical navigation lighthouses still hold a vital role in warning mariners of potential danger along the 59,735 kilometres of coastline which was why they were included in the collection.
"The Commonwealth maintenance of the lighthouse service is vital and this centenary year marks an important milestone," Mr Zsolt said.
"This stamp issue will resonate with those who appreciate these prominent structures, their history and the service they provide."
Your Margaret River Region chief executive Pip Close was thrilled that two of the region's iconic attractions had been chosen as part of the exclusive stamp series. "The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and the Cape to Cape Track are two of our region's greatest assets," she said.
"The lighthouse is crucial for maritime safety and offers a fascinating insight into our region's history and the Cape to Cape Track is a remarkable walk trail which boasts extraordinary diversity of landscapes and spectacular scenery," Ms Close said
"We are delighted to see both of these icons recognized in the current series of stamps by Australia Post; it is wonderful promotion for the region," she said.
The Great Australian Walks stamp issue and the 100 Years of Commonwealth Management of Lighthouses stamps are available at participating post offices.
