AFTER defeating all comers this year the Margaret River Gropers have just one more hurdle in front of them before they can claim their third straight premiership win.
The weekend’s win over the Bunbury Bulls due to a forefeit has set them up for the home final at Little Nippers Oval and captain Ben Christie is calling on Margaret River to turn the oval into a fortress ground for the Gropers.
“We’ve gone through the season undefeated but winning streaks eventually end,” Christie said.
“It’ll be great to get the full support of the community cheering us on as we run on for the grand final.
“The boys will get the extra lift we need to push over our rivals and cement Margaret River as the best rugby town in the South West.”
Although the Gropers haven’t lost a game this season the Dunsborough squad has been nipping at their heels and is sure to bring a strong cheering squad to act as the 16th man.
It will be up to the Margaret River cheer squad to drown out Dunsborough who will throw everything they have got at the Gropers who are eager to end their winning ways.
“They’re always a tough side to play and they have rattled us a few times during the season,” Christie said.
“They’ve got some good players but we’ve also got a strong side to come this far.
“We’ve also got plenty of new blood that is doing well this year and a strong centre combination that has worked well this season.
“Plus we have a few tricks up our sleeves.”
The match starts at 3pm on Saturday at Little Nippers Oval with no entry fee for spectators as well as a barbecue and drinks on offer.
“We hope to see you there to celebrate our third straight win,” Christie said.
