THE Margaret River Roller derby girls can not only skate, but they can also bake.
Proving only their alter egos were tough, over the weekend the Cabernet savages sold sweet treats to raise funds for the Margaret Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service.
Situated outside the Margaret River Central IGA from the early hours of Sunday morning, the girls spent the next few hours cheerfully chatting to the community, inviting them to take part in their fundraising efforts.
“We just like to share the love in Margs,” team member Mandy Carey, aka “Ranga Banga” said.
The group originally wished to donate the proceeds of the cake bake to St John Ambulance, but the service requested the money be sent to an entirely not for profit organisation such as themselves.
The cake bake was the last one for the year, with the ladies turning their focus to the big games ahead, the next one being a home bout against the Dread Pirate Rollers league on September 5.
Carey said the girls couldn’t wait to get onto the track, with the league acting as a sporting outlet, but also a means for friends to catch up.
“We’re all great mates on and off the track,” she said.
