There was plenty of smoke, but no need to worry about the fire as it was all under control thanks to the Wallcliffe Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The brigade was conducting controlled burns to the remove fuel that could create larger bush fires in later months.
More than seven hectares will be cleared by burn offs with the work taking place in at least two sessions of approximately four hectares each.
In order to maintain control of the fire crews have to work efficiently and in perfect unison.
Small fire lines are lit in the bush with the wind pushing the flames into already burned out areas.
The fire needs to be contained to ground level to keep it manageable and fire hoses are on primed to spray any treetops that catch alight quickly to prevent the flames being spread by the wind.
Conditions were near perfect for the burn with the wind taking the fire in a predictable manner.
An fire engine was on standby near the residential houses in case of emergency.
