FOR the second year in a row independently published authors will be able to take part in the annual Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival.
Festival director Helen Allan said 2015 was the first year the festival had encouraged self-published authors to take part, the theme of ‘home’ taking centre stage at next year’s event.
“Authors last year held stalls selling their books, but really wanted the opportunity to read their work and talk to an audience about their writing,” Ms Allan said.
Obviously we couldn’t fit them all into the full line-up of talent in the formal part of the festival – but next year we want to give them that opportunity to shine.”
From June 3-6 next year the opportunity will re-present itself for self published authors to sell their books, with a selection of these novels chosen to participate in readings to be scheduled in the program.
“The readings will be free to the public, so a much wider section of the community will also be able to engage with the festival,” she said.
“Writing a book is sometimes the easy part, promoting and marketing it is what takes a great deal of time if you have independently published. This offer will give authors a real boost in promoting their work.”
