MINING company CalEnergy Resources Group has assured Busselton residents that they would not undertake fracking at Whicher Range.
Residents were concerned mining companies would start fracking at the Whicher Range gas project site after a forum was held by the Chamber of Commerce and mining company.
Fracking is a controversial mining technique which pumps chemicals, water and sand into rocks to release underground gas.
It can cause irreversible damage to the surrounding environment and water supplies which become toxic from the gases that are released during the fracking procedure.
CalEnergy Resources Group’s managing director Peter Youngs said the project was a conventional gas well and no fracking took place.
He said the company also had no intention to frack the well.
“The current status is that we completed the drilling of a conventional gas well in late 2013,” he said.
“We are now planning to flow test the well which allows us to determine what resources might be available at this site.
“We estimate will take between 30 and 40 days.”
