THE Margaret River Roller Derby girls have done it again, smashing and out lapping their way to a 203 point grand final victory at the Boom State Clash 2015.
Held in Perth, the Cabernet Savages took on the Awkwards of the WA Roller Derby league winning convincingly on 322 to the Awkwards 119 points on September 26.
“We were all so hyped… We went out all guns blazing,” player Sarah Kissell said.
Kissell said she believes the grand final was their biggest margin difference to date, an impressive feat considering they only had nine players for the game out of their allowed 14.
“It’s the first time I’ve been fouled out of a game,” she said.
Despite the team making “silly penalties” Kissell said the short amount of players on high rotation with the result they achieved proved the advanced skill level of the Cabernet Savages.
The grand final win saw the team place first in division two and fifth overall in the state, with Kissell saying she thought the team had what it takes to take on first division next year.
To do so, the Cabernet Savages will take part in the Great Southern Slam to be held in Adelaide mid next year.
Kissell said a lot of their fundraising efforts would be put towards the trip, one of which will be the Halloween bout on October 31.
She said the team were encouraging the community to come along in costume, bringing along their children who had been trick or treating around town prior to the game.
“We want to make it a bit more family friendly,” Kissell said.
With plans to let the children loose at half time for a costumed skate, Kissell said the bout was sure to be one for everyone.
