LIFE Without Barriers are on the look out for more carers, with the ratio of carers to clients in the South West on the drastic decline.
The service provides an array of care options, one of which is a foster care system for children in need.
Project officer Deborah Childs said there were a few carers in the region, but they needed more.
“You have to find the right carer for the right client,” she said.
“You never get two clients the same.”
Ms Childs said all age groups were in need of support, with the Life Without Barriers team looking for support from the community interested in becoming disability, primary and respite carers.
“There are local people who will do this,” she said.
“It’s not just giving a home to a child, it can also be giving respite to those who do.
“There are always more children in need.”
Ms Childs said some children could be challenging, but the experience of helping them to better their personal situation came with its own rewards.
“The rewards are significant as you’re making a change in a child’s life,” she said.
“There’s a variety of unfortunate circumstances, but for one reason or another they’re taken from their biological parents
“They need a routine, a nurturing home life and care.”
Ms Childs said current carers within the program were very passionate about what they do and that she couldn’t wait to discover more people willing to make a difference in a young person’s life.
