THE lighthouses of Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste will brighten the skies of the Margaret River region on Saturday, October 13 when they turn purple and yellow for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
“Illuminate” will see the Augusta Margaret River and Geographe Bay Tourism Associations join forces to raise funds and awareness for the work of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
In the wake of International Lighthouse Day in August, Illuminate also recognises and celebrates the contribution of lighthouses to maritime safety.
Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association CEO, Simon Ambrose said Illuminate was a brilliant event. “We are really excited to be collaborating with GBTA again for Illuminate,” he said.
“Last year’s event was a huge success, and this year we’re doing it for the kids.”
Both lighthouses will host activities and entertainment 3– 8pm, with the lighthouses turning purple and yellow from 6pm.
Entry to each site’s grounds after 3pm will be via gold coin donation to Starlight.
Everyone attending is asked to bring a torch and will be invited to switch them on as the lighthouses are illuminated.
There will also be glow wands available for sale with all proceeds to Starlight.
Additional tours of the lighthouse towers will run all day.
The Starlight Children’s Foundation supports seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families in Australia.
The full entertainment program will be posted online at www.margaretriver.com and www.geographebay.com closer to the event.
