SOUTH West MLC Colin Holt has called on WA drivers to give priority to emergency vehicles in the lead to the busy Christmas period.
Mr Holt said in 2013/14 there was 55,000 ambulance movements in regional WA.
“It vitally important drivers need to be aware of what they should do to ensure these vehicles are given right of way,” he said.
The call for action coincides with the launch of the Road Safety Commission’s 12 Most Asked About Road Rules booklet, which covers emergency vehicles as one of its key themes.
There is also a new website which aims to positively influence driver behaviour.
Outgoing Road Safety Council Chair Murray Lampard said the booklet also addressed other important road rules such as roundabouts, merging and mobile phones.
Copies of the ‘12 Most Asked About Road Rules’ booklets are available free of charge and drivers can organise a copy by contacting Mr Holt’s electorate office in Bunbury on freecall 1800 758 458, the Road Safety Commission on 9323 4688 or from the website rsc.wa.gov.au.
