AS part of the Asian Languages program this term, Margaret River Senior High School students participated in a hands on workshop “Tari Kalimantan” from Indonesia on Friday November 13.
Organised by Angela McCoy, Asian Languages teacher, the workshop is to help enrich the students' educational experience.
Students will not only be thoroughly entertained by the performances but will learn about the diversity of cultures found within the Indonesian archipelago as well as the historical of the dance. Indonesian language is also incorporated in the learning process of the workshops to create a holistic learning experience.
The workshop conducted by Rose Ngatikao from Indonesian Dance Studio Perth, students enjoyed the opportunity to be noisy in a choreographed dance that is certainly very different to any dance style seen in Australia.
The session is one hour where students not only learn movements from the dance, but have the opportunity to shine through their own performance.
The artist, Ibu Rose, is working with many schools in Perth and this is her second visit to Margaret River Senior High School.
