A bushfire is bearing down on the Wedge Island settlement north of Perth on Wednesday afternoon while another fire in Wattle Grove in the Perth foothills is under control.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a 'watch and act' for people west of Indian Ocean Drive, between Meadows Road and Wongonderrah Road to the coast, including Wedge Island settlement.
DFES said the blaze west of Indian Ocean Drive is a possible threat to lives and homes - and conditions are changing.
The alert includes people camping at Grey Campsite and on beaches north and south of Wedge Island.
The fire is burning in inaccessible terrain east of Indian Ocean Drive and north of Meadows Road and the fire is moving quickly towards Indian Ocean Drive.
The bushfire is moving fast in a westerly direction and is out-of-control and unpredictable.
Burning embers are likely to be blown around your home.
A number of roads have been closed including:
Indian Ocean Drive is closed between Meadows Road and Cervantes KW Road and
Mimegarra Road north of Meadows Road.
DFES recommends those living in Wedge Island choosing to leave do so via Wedge Island Road then head north on Indian Ocean Drive.
What to do:
- If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.
- If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.
- If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.
