IT takes a whole village to raise a child.
Or in this case, it takes a mothers group to support a Margaret River child diagnosed with a rare illness.
Lacey Griffiths, 10 months old, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive cancer that will require her to undergo immediate nine months chemotherapy.
Prior to her diagnosis, Lacey and her mother Laura were part of a tight-knit Margaret River mothers group.
Since then, Laura and her husband Stu have relocated to Perth to help Lacey with her fight.
But the move has forced Stu and Laura out of work, so the mothers group has teamed up with Bob Castle's Legacy to help raise funds needed for the fight.
“We were shocked when we heard about Lacey’s illness, and all of us being first time mums it really hit home,” mothers group member Fiona Graham said.
“We wanted to do anything we could to help out, so we organised some different ways to raise funds.”
A number of members from the group have been knocking on the doors of local businesses.
“The donations so far have been incredible, it really shows what a small town like Margaret River can achieve,” Ms Graham said.
“The whole community has gotten behind us and we are really proud to call Margaret River our home.”
So far more than $16,000 has been raised by family and friends to help Lacey.
They will be holding raffles outside Margaret River IGA at 7.30am on January 30 and February 7 and outside the Newsagency at 7am, February 6.
