VOYAGER Estate was twice as pleased to be the winner of two awards in the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce and Industry 2012 Business Awards last Thursday.
Competing against three other wineries, the Estate won the Margaret River Gourmet Escape - Winery of Excellence Award. It then competed with the nine other excellence award finalists to win the major MRCCI Margaret River Business of the Year Award 2012, for 10 + employees.
Other major awards were won by Home Timber and Hardware - Rotary Club of Margaret River Corporate Citizen of the Year 2012 Award; The Candy Cow - GWN7 People’s Choice Margaret River Business of the Year 2012; and Margaret River Hemp Co - Augusta Margaret River Shire Council - Margaret River Business of the Year Award 2012 – less than 10 employees.
Excellence awards went to The Berry Farm, Gnarabar, Settlers Tavern, Llewellin’s Guest House, Caves Mechanical Services & Margaret River 4WD Centre, Priceline Pharmacy Margaret River, Intermingle- Margaret River 1st, Sports Power Margaret River and House of Cards, with special commendations to Sea Gardens Cafe Restaurant and The Margaret River Guide.
Voyager Estate wineroom manager Adam Elton said “I think it’s good to get local recognition for what we’re trying to achieve as one of the most inspiring wineries in the region.”
Wine manager Janine Carter said the awards were “all about the customer service” seen at the winery.
She spoke about the new space Voyager opened in June, which offers several new layers of customer service.
Adam said “We still have the common counter experience, but we’re also offering a few different levels of wine experience.”
“We’re not just assuming everyone wants the same experience.”
One level allows customers to sit at a table with meals as they use iPads programmed with a Voyager-specific wine-guide application. It takes them through the winemaker’s notes and food pairings.
“It allows people to move at their own pace,” Adam said.
There are also private educated sessions held in an intimate specially-built room called “Michael’s Room” after the estate’s late founder, Michael Wright.
