SOME of the South West’s best chefs are teaming up to raise money for charity – with a surfing theme.
The SurfAid Surfing Chefs concept was started by Russell Blaikie of Must last year, and the inaugural event raised $26,000.
Former world surfing champion Martin Potter will be teaming up with Russell, Aaron Carr of Vasse Felix, Dany Angove of Leeuwin Estate, Hay Shed Hill’s Jake Drachenberg and Cape Lodge’s Tony Howell.
“When I came up with the concept, I never thought it would capture the imagination of chefs ,who surfed around Australia so much,” Russell said. “And I’m so excited to get the same WA crew together in the line-up for Surfing Chefs Margaret River – Aaron, Dany, Jake and Tony. These guys are at the top of their game in Margaret River and they are so excited that 1989 ASP world surfing champion Martin Potter is coming to cook with them.
“While the food served at last year’s event was awesome, it was exceeded by the generosity of the guests, who raised $26,000 for the SurfAid cause. It’s a sign of the connection between the Margaret River region, the surfing community and the beneficiaries of SurfAid’s work in the Mentawai Islands off Sumatra.”
The dinner will be held at Must Margaret River on Thursday, October 18. Tickets are $150 for the five-course long table dinner and wines, with a 6.30pm arrival for drinks and canapés at 7.30pm. Bookings can be made at w ww.surfaid.org/events
