The picturesque South West of WA is known for its natural beauty and Mediterranean climate.
Bordered by the Indian and Southern oceans, the region covers nearly 24,000 square kilometres and is characterised by its ruggedly handsome coastline, world class surfing, caves and wineries.
The regoin's main activities include agriculture and horticulture, timber and forest products, mineral extraction, processing, manufacturing, retail, tourism, construction, manufacturing, service industries and fishing and aquaculture.
The ongoing development of these activities and infrastructure designed to support them, will ensure the region continues to grow.
With a growth rate higher than the state and national average, the South West has one of the fastest growing populations of regional Australia according to the South West Development Commission.
Currently, more than 158,500 people reside in the South West. By 2027, the region's population is expected to swell to 230,000.
Most of this projected growth is forecast to occur along the coastal strip, with the biggest population increase expected to be in the Busselton and Bunbury local government areas.
The South West region of Western Australia is part of an international eco-tourism and biodiversity hotspot.
From superb surfing beaches to towering forests and world famous wine regions, the South West has something for everyone.
Apart from its breathtaking natural beauty, the region is home to numerous superb restaurants and a thriving arts community with local galleries showcasing the works of local artists.
