Margaret River camping options to increase with new site

The new facility will be located at the historic Jarrahdene site in Boranup forest and will provide 45 individual camp sites and two group camping settings.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob said there was a clear need for extended camping facilities.

“At peak times, Contos campground is full so it’s important to meet the demand with more high-quality sites,” Mr Jacob said.

The popular site was at capacity across the summer with many expressing disappointment at the lack of available sites.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said DPAW’s Parks for People program would give both locals and visitors a chance to experience the natural beauty of the region.

“Providing essential infrastructure at campgrounds in our regional national parks creates greater recreational opportunities and encourages more people to get out and experience regional WA,” Mr Redman said.

Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association chief executive Pip Close said the announcement was a bonus for holidaymakers.

“Camping is a versatile holiday option that offers something for everyone, most Australians experienced camping holidays as kids and it allows people to really reconnect which is something a lot of visitors come to Your Margaret River Region to do,” Ms Close said. 

“Camping creates affordable opportunities for those seeking a natural environment setting, near to the coastline and we’re excited about today’s announcement and the additional facilities this will bring.”
