THE Equinox South West Indoor Motor Show rolls into Busselton this weekend, bringing with it a troupe of hot rods, street machines and muscle cars, including Molloy Island resident Rodney Medway’s 1975 XB Falcon Hardtop.
The show, presented by Hold On Promotions, features up to 50 cars from across the state.
Hold On Promotions organiser Clinton Wall said the majority of the cars on show were new to the event.
“We have cars that have just come out of the shed and are completely original, some Australian muscle, American muscle and a number of hot rods,” he said.
“We may have a couple of door slammers on the road driving over the weekend and some blown cars out on the streets, and hopefully we are going to have a heap of cars coming up on the weekend that are going to be part of the show.”
Mr Wall said a lot of the show’s car owners built their vehicles from scratch.
One of them is Mr Medway, who will present his Falcon at the event.
“I purchased it in 2009 just as a shell – no motor, no wheels, no doors no nothing – and proceeded to put it together, register it over three years, and since then, many modifications,” he said.
“About $80,000 later and I think it is finished.”
Mr Medway, also known as Aussie Rod, said he has owned, among others, four Holden Monaros, three Falcon GTs and two XU-1s.
“I have done a lot of cars, but I always tend to sell them to friends,” he said.
“I get more of a kick out of doing them than owning them or keeping them.
“This one [XB Falcon] is definitely a keeper though, it is my coffin.
“You'll see the number plate SPARED, they reckon that's for me more than the car.”
The event will raise funds for RadioWest's Give Me 5 For Kids campaign, which provides assistance to South West families with sick children when treatment is required at Princess Margaret Hospital.
It runs from June 25, 9am to 5pm and June 26, 10am to 4pm at Geographe Leisure Centre.
Entry is $5 for children up to 15, and $15 for 16 and over. Children under 10 are free.
