The Kookaburras have called – and local hockey star Aran Zalewski has answered.
Zalewski was nominated as replacement for the injured Tristan White as the Australian Olympic hockey team prepares to head to Rio next week.
Zalewski’s mum Cathy spoke to The Mail this week and said the family were excited to be joining the 25 year old at the Games.
“This is the fun part, you know; they work so hard and there’s so much training, now this is the pay off,” Mrs Zalewski said.
Hockey WA chief Peter Churack said Zalewski was “unlucky" to have not been selected prior.
“Aran is a fantastic hockey player and a world-class athlete,” he said.
“I’m delighted he will now be given the opportunity to showcase his skills on the biggest stage of them all.”
