The South West appears to have established itself as a training ground for up and coming polocrosse superstars with two competitors representing their state and country at a number of events.
Adele Martin travelled to South Africa to compete in a test series after representing Western Australia in the Junior Girls Polocrosse team in NSW early this year.
From this competition, Ms Martin was selected to play for Australia in the Under 16 mixed Polocrosse team, along with another young player from Geraldton.
The two girls made history as being the first ever WA girls to be selected to represent Australia in the Under 16’s.
At the presentation, Ms Martin’s horse also won the title of ‘Best Junior Horse.’
At the South African tournament last weekend, Ms Martin took the title of Best Girl Player Under 16 and Under 16 Best Horse and Rider, while the Australian team defeated their rivals and hosts.
Ms Martin comes from a passionate polocrosse family, with father Darren Martin representing WA on many occasions and in the National Masters earlier this year.
At just 13 years of age, Cowaramup’s Tyla Maguire is the youngest player to be competing on the national polocrosse tour where she is currently preparing to play in a quad-series in NSW. The series will see WA take on USA, NSW and QLD teams.
