The twin guardians of the Margaret River region will be a hive of activity this weekend as celebrations for International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend get underway.
Visitors to Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste Lighthouses will be able to access the grounds for a special gold coin donation to the local sea search and rescue services.
Once in the grounds, enthusiasts will enjoy demonstrations from local amateur radio clubs.
Club member Anthony Benbow said the weekend was a fantastic opportunity for people to learn more about the structures.
“The weekend takes place to highlight the historic significance of lighthouses for the safety of marine transport and communications,” Mr Benbow said.
“Each year, amateur radio enthusiasts across Australia and around the world set up radio stations at lighthouses and aim to communicate with each other.”
Guided tours at each site will also be discounted for the day. For more information visit www.margaretriver.com/lighthouses
