A Margaret River winemaker will take his place at the elite Len Evans wine tutorial program after winning one of just twelve scholarships to the annual event.
Luke Jolliffe, senior winemaker at Stella Bella Wines was the only Western Australian to be awarded a place in the program and said he was honoured to be selected.
“In my opinion, the tutorial is the pinnacle of education in Australian and International wine,” Mr Jolliffe said.
The program is designed to define quality by exposing the scholars to the great wine styles of the world.
A team of five tutors will put scholars through their paces in what wine judge James Halliday described as “the most exclusive wine school in the world.”
Tutors include the aforementioned Halliday, Ian McKenzie, Michael Hill Smith as well as past scholars Sarah Crowe, Tyson Stelzer, Jim Chatto and Tom Carson.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to taste some extremely rare and exceptional wines from around the world, which without the Len Evans Tutorial would not be possible,” Mr Jolliffe said.
“To assess and discuss these wines with our industry leaders is an opportunity of a lifetime.”
Many of the world’s rarest and oldest wines are opened, tasted and scrutinised during the week-long tutorial which includes regional masterclasses, blind tastings, wine dinners and activities designed to boost the knowledge of some of Australia’s best and brightest wine talents.
