Long time resident and builder Mark Chadwick has established a new construction company in the region, aiming to deliver energy-efficient, eco-smart homes that are flexible to lifestyles and affordable to many.
The company offers a range of plans and a selection of house and land packages available in eight subdivisions across the region. Mr Chadwick said the idea stemmed from a desire to focus on renewable energy sources and smart design outside of his more conventional construction business.
“I’m already familiar with building in the region having spent nearly 30 years doing just that,” Mr Chadwick said.
“This is our way of demonstrating that eco-efficient housing is possible, affordable and simple right here in the South West.”
The homes are not only designed to take full advantage of the sun - with passive solar design and standard specifications like double glazing and triple-insulated ceilings and floors – but the designs are fresh and modern, featuring natural finishes and quality products throughout.
“We want to focus on homes that are about quality of life; from using zero-percent VOC (volatile organic compound) paints in every home, to creating plans that can be easily extended to add rooms in future.”
“The technology is there to make environmentally conscious housing far cheaper and more accessible than it has been in the past. We are happy to be providing access to that technology while supporting local trades, apprentices and the regional economy by keeping all our business within the area.”
“Our homes are 8-star rated, I don’t think it will be long before we see 10-star rated homes now that solar panels, solar batteries and rainwater tanks are more common.
Custom designs for blocks in developments around the region are available, while designers can also work with owners to source the perfect block, or design a home that fits their existing block. Standard features in all designs include solar panel and hot water systems, burnished concrete floors, stone bench tops, stainless steel appliances and under slab insulation.
“There’s more to it than just making it fit – we consider the overall design, how the home will be used and how it will need to change and adapt over the life of the building,” Mr Chadwick said.
“With a little forethought and careful consideration to materials and design, you can have a stunning home that will save you thousands of dollars and make life more enjoyable.”
