The Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault colts capped off a fantastic 2016 by winning their grand final against Bunbury by 54 points.
The Lions had made their way into the grand final without losing a game all year and were keen to keep their streak alive, kicking the first two goals of the game through Jonah Ietto and Josh O’Day.
Thomas Boyle added the third and Kale Triplett added a fourth to see HBL leading 4.2.26 to 0.0.0 at quarter time.
Lowi Stepnell got the Bulldogs on the board in the second term with a goal before Boyle kicked the first major against the breeze.
Lachlan Payet kicked Bunbury’s second before Boyle sealed his third and fourth – extending HBL’s lead to 7.3.45 to 2.1.13 at the main break.
Unsurprisingly Boyle was the first player to kick a goal in the third term, extending his bag to five.
Jake Currell piled on more pain for the Bulldogs when he was awarded a 50 metre penalty and kicked HBL’s ninth goal to see the Lions ahead 9.4.58 to 2.3.15 at the final change.
Jayden Rando got on the board for HBL in the fourth before a beautiful banana kick from Bunbury’s Curtis Matejan sailed through the big sticks.
A final goal to HBL’s Kieran Chell sealed the result. The final siren heralded back-to-back colts flags for HBL 12.7.79 to 3.7.25. Boyle was named best-on-ground for his efforts in the forward line.
