A family friendly event to be held at Doust’s Corner just south of Margaret River this weekend will see two Yahava baristas brave the barber’s seat to shave their heads for breast cancer research.
Long time employee and local favourite Steve will be joined by his young colleague Maddy in shaving their heads for the cause.
“I heard Maddy was planning to be very brave and let someone shave her head, and I thought – I’ll be in that!” Steve told the Mail last week.
Festivities will kick off from 9am this Saturday when the store opens, with face painting, lucky dips, coffee sack races and giveaways on offer throughout the day until 3pm.
Yahava Koffeeworks Margaret River manager Shae Dillon said the day wouldn’t be possible without the support of some local businesses.
“We’ve had Brumbys and Riverfresh IGA donate the goods towards the sausage sizzle, and we have also received donations from Settlers Liquor, Temper Temper and Vasse Virgin,” Ms Dillon said.
“It’s fantastic that we live in such a generous town, and that the generosity continues even when we know many of these businesses are already supporting causes within the town.”
To maintain the local touch, the Yahava crew will donate half of the proceeds from Saturday’s event to local cancer charity River Angels, while the remainder will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“It’s definitely important to keep that local connection, the community wants to know that their donations make a real difference to people and who better than their neighbours?” Ms Dillon said.
Brave employee Maddy, who has agreed to shave her long brunette locks for the cause, said she was excited and keen to see how much the team could raise with their pledge.
For the affable Steve, a favourite and familiar face to many over the years, the “big shave” could see more than just his head clipped.
“To people with generous wallets, there may be an opportunity to sway me to remove certain other items… you’ll have to come down on Saturday and see what happens!”
