The second annual South West Schools Disco has a new name this year in honour of the Halloween theme, and organiser Charlie Proud said this year’s event will be even bigger and better than the last.
“This year we are calling it the South West Ghouls Disco, a play on the idea of all the primary students in the region joining together to socialise in a fun and safe environment,” Ms Proud said.
Last year the disco theme got kids up and dancing to the live band and Ms Proud said this year will be no different.
“We have the fantastic Freeman Brothers DJ playing up first, who has performed at a lot of the school discos and socials around the region.
“Then we are very excited to have the Crooked Brook Bush Band, who will lead the kids in learning a bush dance while playing some foot stomping tunes.”
Ms Proud said the Halloween harvest theme was the perfect opportunity for children to dress up and let their hair down, getting to know some students from other schools before meeting again in their first year of high school.
“This is an event just for the kids only; we ask parents to drop them off and I can assure everyone that there are extremely strict security processes in practice.”
The venue is locked for the duration of the disco to avoid anyone entering or exiting the hall without permission, and an approved group of volunteer parents have been recruited to monitor the children, including a medical doctor.
“For many of the kids this is the first time they’ve experienced something that offers real live music, dancing, food and all the fun of a festival.”
“They get a special lanyard upon entry and they are fully catered for with a hot dinner and sweets and all refreshments, included in the ticket price.”
Ms Proud warned that online ticket sales would close at 10pm tonight, Wednesday October 26 and that parents should be quick to book their children in.
“We may possibly offer door sales if there are tickets remaining but at this stage we don’t want anyone to miss out, so please book and make your dinner selections tonight!”
The South West Ghouls Disco is at Cowaramup Hall from 4.30pm this Friday October 28. For information visit www.facebook.com/SWGhoulsDisco
