Bali: A "shocked and scared" Sara Connor and her British DJ boyfriend hired a scooter after the Byron Bay woman learnt police were looking for her.
The owner of a scooter rental shop in Jimbaran, a famous coastal resort south of Kuta, recalled a "scruffy" looking Connor had held her stomach while the couple hired a scooter for 24 hours on August 19.
Nengah Astika told the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday Ms Connor's boyfriend, David Taylor, looked "fit and normal" but Ms Connor "kept holding her stomach".
"I assumed she had an upset stomach, she looked pale," he said. "I saw injuries on David's arm and knee."
But Ms Connor told the court she was not sick but "scared and horrified and shocked".
"I had just found out they were looking for me," she said.
Connor, a 46-year-old mother of two from Byron Bay, and Taylor, 34, are facing charges of murder, group fatal assault or assault leading to death over the death of Balinese police officer Wayan Sudarsa.
The police officer's battered body was found on Kuta beach on August 17.
Mr Taylor has admitted bashing him with binoculars and a beer bottle after they fought when the DJ accused him of stealing Ms Connor's missing handbag.
However Ms Connor insists she is innocent and tried to separate the pair as they wrestled on the beach.
It is alleged Ms Connor turned her mobile phone on three days after Mr Sudarsa died to find text messages from friends telling her police had found her bag near the victim.
"I found out just that morning. I didn't do it. David was defending himself," Ms Connor told Fairfax Media.
They allegedly burned the clothes they were wearing the night of Mr Sudarsa's death before going to the Australian Consulate where police were waiting.
Speaking outside court, Ms Connor's lawyer Erwin Siregar said he had flown to Byron Bay last weekend to attend a fundraiser to help cover the cost of Ms Connor's defence.
The lawyer had met Ms Connor's young sons while in Byron Bay and they all played football together.
"The kids say: 'Uncle Erwin when you bring my Mum home?'. I said: 'Pray for your mum, I do hope that we can bring your Mum home as soon as possible'."
Mr Siregar said 1000 people had attended the fundraiser, which charged a $5 entry fee, and lasted from 10.30 in the morning to 10 o'clock at night.
Everyone who performed at the event had done so for free. Mr Siregar had twice addressed the crowd, telling them he hoped she would be found not guilty.
"Many people that I meet there, they love Sara very much," he said. "Many people talked to me, 'please bring Sara home as soon as possible'. I said I will do my best but I cannot give guarantee. I will do my best."
Mr Siregar had also interviewed two women in Sydney who were staying at the nearby Pullman Hotel in Kuta on the night of Mr Sudarsa's death.
He said at about 1.30am the two women, Kim Watson and Coleen Bowman, had heard a voice with an Australian accent say: "No, no, no, leave her."
He said the two women had agreed to come to Bali to testify. The fundraiser would help pay for their travel.
