Santa Claus well and truly arrived this week at the Margaret River Golf Club, where a big week of play saw the junior competition come to a close.
First, the veterans indulged in a sumptuous Christmas lunch with all the trimmings after their 9 hole stableford, won by Richard Deshon with 24 points.
John Norman scored 22 for second place. Jim Watson played well enough for third on a count back. In between courses there was a big hoerah for Jon Beales who won the Ray Atcheson shield
The ladies played a two ball ambrose as their end of winter season game and enjoyed fun Christmas celebrations with a present for every participant and plenty of food and bubbles.
The Thursday boys competed in the third round of the Cowaramup Agencies Scroungers Cup. Dave Jeffrey played best on the day with 42 points, followed by Rob Hearn (41) and Steve Owen (40).
They will celebrate next week when the overall winner of the 4 rounds will be announced. Rob Hearn is leading overall on 111 points, followed by Kim Hewton and our Irish Matt O’Farrell.
Santa was back on Friday to bring some Christmas cheer to the 9 hole Mixed Stableford. Overall winner was Jim Watson, who just pipped Gerry Hunt on a count back with 19 points. Barbara Webster was best lady, also scoring 19.
Friday afternoon Junior golf enjoyed their last play on the course due to summer holidays. All participants played a few holes under the supervision of master coach Mike Skivinis and helpers Dave Benson and Matt O’Farrell. Junior golf will recommence on Friday February 3 and new players are always welcome.
The Afox Plumbing Mens stableford had to battle it out in the 30+ heat on Saturday. It was a great golf week for Jim Watson, as he also came first with 43 points, just beating Dave Jeffrey who got the better of Jim Triglone on a count back (40).
Stan Anderson played his best game of the season to win the Mixed stableford and just pipped new member Anne Kendra on a count back with 42 points. Sue Bloxam secured third position on a count back with Kim Hewton.
