A big week of golf rounded out a fantastic year of competition, with results and top performances flying around the Margaret River Golf Club, as well as some festive celebrations and awards presentations leaving members, friends and clubgoers with broad smiles and enthusiasm for the 2017 playing year.
First up was the Veterans 9 Hole Stableford, where Richard Deshon got the better of Matt O’Farrell and to take out the winning spot on a countback with 19 points, while handyman Kevin Parker scored one point less to secure third place.
Cathy Carroll played for glory to score just one more than Sue Bloxam (39) on another summery day during the Women’s Stableford on Wednesday.
It was a tense week for the men during the final stableford round of the Cowaramup Agencies Scroungers Cup.
The generous prize pool kept the boys focused and playing their best.
John Norman was the lucky man and will see his name engraved on the Scroungers Cup this year.
Steve Owen played best on the day, and was runner up over the four rounds.
This big day of play was capped off with a barbecue celebration on the deck at the club.
Ladies come first in the Taylor’s household - the husband and wife team of Mary and Jim Taylor won the Mixed 9 hole stableford, Mary playing one point better than Jim, who pipped captain Di Yates on a count back (17).
The Cheeky Monkeys Men’s stableford was won by Men’s Champion 2016 Jim House with an impressive 42 points.
Wayne Clarke came in second (39) and Gavin Leiper took third place with 38.
Veteran Mike Lawson played his best game of the year to score 44 points at Sunday’s 18 hole mixed stableford.
Anne Kendra was first lady and overall second who just beat Stan Anderson on a count back with 39 points.
The Margaret River Golf Club welcomes new members and visiting players to their par 72 course, with the clubhouse boasting a bar overlooking the course, open daily from 11am during summer.
