A CrossFit charity event aimed at collecting much needed gifts for the Kmart Wishing Tree Christmas Appeal has been hailed a success, with a massive pile of presents donated by the CrossFit community.
Early Saturday morning the group of fitness fanatics gathered at CrossFit Margaret River’s ‘box’ – the term given to the cube-shaped gyms associated with the popular sport – to kick off the 24 in 24 Challenge.
Participants completed one ‘WOD’, or workout-of-the-day, each hour in a range of gyms as they travelled from Margaret River to Perth, pausing to meet fellow trainers and coaches.
CrossFit Margaret River owners Ben and Nicole Robinson said the opportunity to support a worthy cause doing something they were so passionate about was an easy decision.
“To picture those kids with smiles on their faces, it puts a few goosebumps on the back of your neck and few cheeky tears in the eyes,” Mr Robinson said.
The duo elected to be part of the charity drive in support of the Smith Family to help disadvantaged children enjoy the fun of Christmas.
“One hundred per cent of proceeds and presents will be going to the Kmart Wishing Tree which will be distributed around the State to less fortunate kids.
“Twenty four workouts in twenty four hours doesn’t seem so bad with the perspective of knowing there are kids out there doing it much tougher.”
The 24 in 24 Challenge concluded in Perth, with a number of South West residents returning home weary but stoked to have been a part of a successful and meaningful event.
