Massive swells, weird weather, amazing encounters and tall tales from the deep (and not so deep) has kept surfers and beachgoers in the Margaret River region busy, and entertained, throughout the year. The crew at Surfing Margaret River (SMR) have been keeping tabs on all the action from the coast and Terri Sharpe said there had been heaps of memorable moments.

“We had the Pro in April, which brought those massive crowds and all the buzz that comes with such a huge international event in our hometown,” she said.
“We had a fantastic Autumn with some truly epic surf, rumours of a twenty foot swell in late July, a really late start to summer which left surfers happy but beachgoers wondering if Summer was ever going to start!”
The local surf experts have been compiling the best moments from the year to document the action that takes place off our coastline.
“All highlights are featured at 5pm the day they occur on the SMR Facebook page, and then we offer a more detailed blog and photo galleries on our main website.”
Ms Sharpe said her passion for capturing iconic surf images gave her many opportunities to experience the highs and lows of surfing the South West.
“Of course there’s the normal goings-on that this region offers over a year – shark sightings, boards breaking, competitions, whales breaching, dolphin near misses, and then Mother Nature deciding that wasn’t enough and treating us to 10ft sets rolling in at Surfer’s Point in December,” she said.
A range of local surfing images snapped by the Surfing Margaret River team and finished on ready-to-hang canvases have been made available at up to 80 per cent discount in the lead up to Christmas. Canvases will be available at the reduced rate from the Margaret River Library until Christmas Eve.
