A 31-year-old Vasse man remains in police custody after he was arrested last Thursday for allegedly bashing, raping and holding a woman captive for a two-day period in late December.
Karl David William Baudoeuf was granted bail when he fronted Bunbury Magistrates Court on a number of charges relating to the incident last Friday but failed to raise the $20,000 required to make surety and was remanded in custody.
These charges include aggravated sexual penetration without consent, four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, assault, deprivation of liberty, sexual penetration without consent and stealing.
On Monday, Baudoeuf appeared in court via video-link from Bunbury Regional Prison where he was further charged as a result of another female victim coming forward.
These charges include making a threat to kill and two counts of unlawful assault causing bodily harm with circumstances of aggravation.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Brian McCormack on Friday said the victim and the accused were friends on Facebook but had never met prior to the incident.
The court heard on Tuesday, December 27, the accused picked up the woman from her residence and took her back to his dwelling in Vasse where they had consensual sex.
The following day, while watching television, he allegedly became aggressive and held a knife over her.
When she became frightened and wanted to leave, he is accused of depriving the woman of her liberty, physically abusing and sexually assaulting her until she managed to escape on December 29.
Sergeant McCormack said the woman was later admitted to hospital with injuries including a broken nose, fractured ribs, swelling to the face and bruising to the body.
Defence lawyer Jen De Clerk told the court her client denies all charges.
Busselton Police Station officer-in-charge Jason Van Der Ende urged people to use caution when meeting strangers.
“Meet the person in a public environment where there are other people around should you encounter a problem,” he said.
“Let your friends or family know where you are and do not take off with a stranger.”
