The water has been alive with fish both from shore and boat based fishing in the last couple of weeks and marine lovers have been out in force, taking advantage of some beautiful conditions.
The conditions have allowed boaties to head out and most reports have been that the quota has been reached within the first hour and they are heading back to the ramp.
Good size Dhuies, pinkies, nanny and black arse have been reported.
I too have been out on the boat (New Year’s Day) and what a great day out it was.
Jimmy was nice enough to invite us out on his centre console and he took us straight to the spot early that proved to be a winner.
Basically, every drop we did produced good bites and fish.
The drift was fairly solid – however luckily his spots are easy to line up and drift over several in one hit. Paul and Billy have also been out with great results and little effort.
I will suggest that you look at using the lumo squid as well as a lumo bead on your rig for the Dhuies as this seem to be the flavour or the month.
The Harly Steve caught was on the new Asari – silver/lumo jig , well worth having some of these in your tackle box.
Shore based fishing has proved to be HOT HOT HOT in the last month.
Many pics from customers have shown large tailor and mulloway as well as herring in good numbers.
The beach conditions at night have been conducive to wetting a line, taking your family and making a great time of it.
There is nothing more relaxing that sitting on the beach, watching the sun go down with a beer and a fishing rod in your hands.
The ever-popular marron season began in earnest on Sunday and as you can see from the photos we’ve received, the people who were willing to jump in and give it a crack enjoyed the spoils of the season so far.
Sam Badger went to his secret spot – only to find it loaded and he enjoyed the spoils with a lovely bottle of wine and refreshing salad later that day.
The divers have been pretty quiet although they seem to be finding the crays. Good numbers have been reported from both the free divers and the tank divers around the capes.
A few lads went out diving in the last week and were able to pick up a nice size dhu in only about eleven metres of water.
Feel free to come in to the store and ask for advice on how to or where to fish, dive, camp and generally get outdoors and have fun.
Safe diving and fishing until next month,
Roz Cummings
