Voting commenced on Monday for the 2017 State election, with electors free to vote either at early voting centres around the state, or on polling day.
Electoral commissioner David Kerslake said anyone wishing to vote early no longer needs to have a specific reason.
“In the past electors were required to declare that for some reason they were unable to vote on polling day. That rule no longer applies,” he said.
“If you simply prefer to vote early rather than leave it until polling day, that is your choice”, he said.
He said based on the new legislation and trends in other states the electoral commission expected a significant increase in the level of early voting.
Assistance for electors is available via the elections helpline 13 63 06.
Polling day is Saturday, March 11.
Early voting will be available from until Friday March 10, between Monday and Friday except the Public Holiday on Monday 6 March.
