THE Drug Aware Margaret River Pro starts next Wednesday and runs until April 9, with competition on the best days possible during the event window.
The event is also mobile to other breaks such as the Box and North Point which gives the riders the best conditions to perform.
Owen Wright is already the feel good story of 2017 by not only returning from a head injury which kept him out of the tour for over a year but winning his comeback event at the Quiksilver Pro in Queensland.
The last time they held heats at the Box, Owen scored a 10-point barrel on his backhand and he has an abundance of raw talent.
Current World Champion John John Florence is hoping for some competition days at the Box and posted a solid third place result at the first event in Queensland last weekend.
“I’m going to get over there [WA] early and try to beat the crowds,” Florence said.
This year’s contest in Margaret River could be the last time it’s run as a World Championship Tour event because the WSL is looking to cut back on one event of the Australian leg.

Current world number two Matt Wilkinson went back-to-back finals in Queensland at Snapper Rocks during the first event and looks to consolidate on his breakout 2016 year.

The event could still run but probably only as a World Qualifying Series contest.
Yallingup’s Kael Walsh has locked in a great result at the WSL Junior Series event held at Trigg point last weekend, with a second place to New Zealand’s Kehu Butler.
“This is really good conditions for Perth standards, so to make the final and take home some prize money and good points is a good thing so I’m stoked,” Walsh said.
The junior tour now moves to Kiama, NSW next month with a total of seven events throughout the year.
