There is good news ahead for mountain bike fans and riders in the region with the upcoming Bike Week celebrations kicking off at Brewhouse Margaret River.
The ‘Beer for a Bike’ promotion offers mountain bike aficionados the chance to swap a funky, unique or vintage mountain bike or their unique mountain bike paraphernalia to display at the Brewhouse in exchange for keg of Brewhouse beer.
Brewhouse Margaret River’s Kate Sutton said people were welcome to enter their unique bike-related pieces in person, via email or by posting to social media.
“Entrants can use the #brewhousemargaretriverbeerforabike hashtag, or submit the entry in person,” she said.
“We’ll select our favourite piece and organise your favourite Brewhouse keg of beer in return.”
The brewery will also offer Margaret River Off Road Cycling Association (MRORCA) members a special MTB/Brewhouse deal, a choice of soft cheek tacos or fire cracker chicken wings and a pint of beer, wine or soft drink for $20.
“Just let us know – and we’ll double check - that you are a member of MRORCA and the deal is yours,” Ms Sutton said.
“Jump on your bike and come visit us in the forest for a pint!”
MRORCA members have been hard at work in the forest constructing two new features on the region’s mountain biking landscape.
Ahead of scheduled winter trail maintenance, a timber ‘wall ride’ and a timber ‘roller’ are being added to the recently created Compartment 10 trail, ‘Pugsley’.
According to MRORCA’s Louise Mann, the long-awaited new features were thanks to a tireless set of volunteer riders and trail workers.
“The installation, which was approved in the original trail plans, is being installed by a small but dedicated group of keen volunteers,” Mrs Mann said.
“So far more than 200 volunteer hours have gone into the new additions, with material costs mostly covered by the Department of Parks and Wildlife.”
Mrs Mann said the group was keen to reveal the results of the group’s hard work to the community.
“Everyone involved in the project is very excited to see these approved features open to the public in the very near future,” she said.
