It is not uncommon in live theatre to see an actor performing in more than one role. Often actors will re-appear as part of a chorus, or in an entirely different speaking role.
Award winning comedy ‘Stones in his Pockets’ has two lead actors taking on a whopping 15 roles across the show, which tells a riotous tale of cultural clashes as a small Irish community is turned upside down by the arrival of a Hollywood movie shoot.
From the two Irish extras looking for a brighter future on the silver screen, to the young local, bitter about being rejected for a job on set, to the gorgeous Hollywood superstar – Grant Cartwright and Sean Hawkins rely on lightning fast character transformation and physical and vocal skill to adapt to the swiftly moving script.
Equal parts hysterically funny and deeply moving, Stones in his Pockets places the small town locals – hired as extras on the film – against the bravado of the Hollywood ‘big shots’.
The film’s story of a budding romance between a rich girl and a local farmer, is played out in stark contrast to the rising friction between the opposing groups, resulting in funny and touching moments from the talented cast.
The production has received a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, won Best Play at the Irish Theatre Awards and has consistently received high praise from critics since its debut.
Stones in his Pockets will play at Margaret River Cultural Centre on Sunday April 9 from 7pm.
