The first community fundraising event for the new look Margaret River skate park was held last week, and brought scores of young skaters to the park for the ‘Sparkle Skate Party’.
Participants were encouraged to wear “something sparkly” to celebrate the first fundraiser, which raised just over $200 towards an ultimate $25,000 target.
Organiser and Margaret River Skate School owner Ness Moore said the event was a great success.
“We had heaps of kids dressed up in the sparkle theme, and everyone had a ball,” Ms Moore said.
“We are really pleased with how the night went and we are definitely looking forward to holding more fundraisers soon.”
The seasoned skater said the sport was becoming more popular with girls every year.
“There is a group of girls and women of all ages in this community with some serious skating skills, and the number grows every week,” Ms Moore said.
“It’s really great to see women jumping into the sport, it’s great for fitness and strength but it’s also just a heap of fun and a fantastic social activity too.”
