Construction has begun on the Swan River foreshore for a playground for all ages and abilities.
The All Abilities Play Space has been designed for Beaton Park in Nedlands and will take up 10,000 square-metres of space.
Designed by landscape architect Fiona Robb??, the $4 million project was first announced by the City of Nedlands in April last year.
Stage 1 of the plan has officially begun construction and is set to include much of the play equipment, part of the car park and a utility upgrade to power and sewage in the area.
A spokesperson for the City of Nedlands said the play space would be a unique way to bring 'inclusive play' to the whole of Perth.

"It will be a large-scale, innovative, state-of-the-art play facility that has been purpose-designed to meet everyone's needs, regardless of their age or ability," they said.
"Research shows that play is important for everyone, helping to build physical, psychological and social health. Play strengthens our abilities, develops our skills and brings us together. While play is vital for children, it is also important for teenagers, adults and seniors too."
The design also takes the needs of people with disabilities into account, with specialised play equipment designed for Perth's senior citizens.
The project has received funding from Lotterywest, the Rotary Clubs of Nedlands, Subiaco, West Perth and Matilda Bay, Inclusion WA, Wood and Grieves Engineers and Australia's Bridge.
