With Easter nearing, shoppers are being urged to support a fundraising effort to secure the future of the uniquely local quokka.
The Margaret River Chocolate Company has released “Chokka the Quokka”, with $2 from every one sold going to quokka conservation.
Last week the company made an initial $5000 donation to the Rottnest Foundation at a Quokka Symposium in Fremantle, after last year donating more than $8000 to finance a WWF assessment of SW quokka populations after the December 2015 bushfires.
Co-founder Martin Black said the company was delighted to have been a part of the symposium and to make another significant donation towards quokka conservation and research.
“Easter is our biggest time of the year and while we still expect to sell plenty of eggs, we hope Chokka will be at the top of everyone’s list,” he said.
“Chokka is beautifully packaged in a unique Rottnest setting and makes an ideal Easter gift.
“Chokka captures a very realistic likeness to the furry marsupial and it’s a great ambassador for promoting Rottnest Island and Western Australia.”
Chokka the Quokka is available at The Margaret River Chocolate Company’s two factories in Margaret River and the Swan Valley and at its Perth store in Murray Street.
