For the fifth year in a row, the growing Foamlust Surf Festival is on again, but this year the event has taken up new digs at The Common Bar in Gnarabup.
Run in conjunction with the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro the exhibition is a showcase of the region’s rich surfing history and the surfboard shapers who have crafted the boards best suited to local waves
“It’s great to be holding the festival out next to the ocean, right in the middle of the action in Gnarabup,” festival co-organiser John Dutton said.
The festival has grown from a simple expo-style showcase of local surfboard shapers and surf-associated industries to include film screenings, workshops and talks from renowned surf photographers and film makers and a surfboard shaping bay.
“The grand finale this year is of course the Foamlust Beach Party, which will be held at the White Elephant Beach Cafe this coming Saturday night,” Mr Dutton said.
Much loved local musicians ‘Beeva Feeva’ will headline the Foamlust party, reforming in time to play the 5th anniversary of the festival alongside Seth Lowe (aka Squidlive).
Mr Dutton said the huge display of vintage surfboards, live surfboard shaping demonstrations, live Posca pen art display and live painting display by Jacqui Garrett Brown would keep punters entertained along with the live music and that he was keen to celebrate at the new venue.
“It really is a celebration of the entire surfing community and the incredible artists we have in the region, shapers tucked away in various spots between Dunsborough and Augusta,” he said.
“What started out as essentially a showcase of some of the shapers in the South West has developed into this really impressive display of what the region has to offer the surfing world.
“Every year it just gets better and better.”
