Blue Ocean Fish & Chips owners Dave Marshall and Linda Harris are preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the year at their Augusta seafood shop, and they couldn’t be happier.
“It’s a really busy weekend, we have lots of tourists and people visiting town, town is packed, it’s great,” Mr Marshall said earlier this week.
“Good Friday is obviously very busy, we are open all day and night and it’s pretty consistent all day.”
The duo moved to Augusta after operating fish and chip shops in Australind and Eaton, and celebrated their second year in town last week.
“Augusta is a fantastic place to live, the community is so great and welcoming,” Ms Harris said.
“We’ve had to work hard to establish ourselves but we have been supported the whole way and we absolutely love it here.”
The pair were recently surprised to discover they had been nominated in the Australian Fish and Chips awards, a competition to recognise the country’s best seafood using sustainably-managed produce.
“We had no idea, it someone nominated us and then before we knew it all these votes were flooding in,” Ms Harris said.
“It would be incredible to see Augusta recognised for the top quality seafood we have here in the South West, and we would love people to get on board and vote for us through the website.”
Blue Ocean Fish & Chips currently stands at seventh position in the Western Australian rankings, and the Harrises hope a bustling Easter weekend of seafood trade will boost their chances.
“Our seafood is caught right here in Augusta, down at the marina, and brought to the shop where we prepare it and have it ready to eat within 24 to 48 hours,” Mr Marshall said.
“It doesn’t get any better than a piece of freshly caught Augusta bronzie, you can’t beat it.”
Voting for the Australia’s Best Fish and Chips is now open. Cast your vote for Augusta’s Blue Ocean Fish & Chips by visiting the website here.
Winners will be announced at a national awards ceremony to be held in Sydney on September 28.
