The Margaret River men’s hockey team defeated Capel 5-2 in a special Association Day played on the grass fields in Busselton over the weekend.
Adjusting well to the conditions, Margaret River dominated play across all positions with big hitting out of defence from Daniel Stocker, Jon Tennant and Brynley Jenkins setting up the attacking wings.
Luke Altmann was providing plenty of drive in the midfield and was rewarded when he scored from a penalty corner.
Joseph Dennis added another when he received a great pass from Michael Jones to score the second goal for the half.
The second half saw Margaret River maintaining the dominance with Dan Bell and Clint Gartrell playing strongly. Ben Van-Overdijk received the perfect pass form Blake Smith to extend the lead.
Against play, Capel responded with a field goal to provide some incentive, however it didn’t take long for Margaret River to bounce back when Jenkins dived at a cross pass into the goal circle to bring up a sensational goal.
Brad Yates added another before Capel scored a late face-saving goal to end the match.
Best players for Margaret River were Altmann, Bell and Gartrell who displayed excellent trapping, hitting and passing skills on the grass field.
