Siteworks are underway on the new Margaret River Lifestyle Village located just south of the Margaret River townsite, between Boodjidup and Rosa Brook roads.
The development will consist of 91 individual homes, the majority of which will be secured within the gated community in what Village Project Director Adan Nicholson said was a balance between safe retirement living and “a sense of freedom”.
With designs such as The Injidup, The Meelup and The Contos, homes promise a distinctly down-south style in keeping with the overall plan for the community.
“This is not your average retirement community,” Mr Nicholson said, himself a long time local and South West surfing aficionado.
“We know that people who live in this part of the world want to remain active and seek our hobbies and interests they may have wanted to take on their whole lives,” he said.
Winemaking, beer brewing and olive production will be available onsite with the help of local experts, as wll as a workshop, vegetable gardens, chicken run and electric ‘fat bikes’ for residents to use.
The shining centrepiece of the development is the Brewhouse-inspired Clubhouse, where residents will be able to hone their barista skills, enjoy darts competitions, music and theatre as well as the proposed barbecue pit entertaining area.
Much of the existing bush and natural environment will be retained thanks to a concerted effort from developers to position homes with conservation in mind.
“The benefit of the transportable housing is that we are able to look at the property and slightly shift angles and positions to protect even more of these beautiful trees.”
A number of homes will overlook an existing creek system while direct access to the Rails to Trails network will also be installed. Margaret River local Fiona Edwards has signed on as a local representative for the development and said it will tick a lot of boxes for retirees.
“There is such a need for affordable housing in this region and I can’t think of a better location, it’s just a few minutes to the Farmer’s Market and the centre of town, a few minutes to Witchcliffe, but with the real natural bush setting that the region is famous for.”
An information evening will be held on Wednesday June 14 at 5.30pm. For more info visit www.margaretriverlifestylevillage.com.au or call Adan on 0418 940 450.
