The veterans enjoyed good weather conditions on Tuesday at the Veterans 9 hole stroke event.
Gerry Hunt was the winner of the day with 32 points, followed by club historian Ray Atcheson, who has kept an incredible collection of historic events of the golf club, including newspaper clippings.
Jim Taylor scored two points less for third place on a count back (36).
Kerry Farrelly won the A grade women’s stableford scoring 35 on a count back from Jane Taylor.
Visitor Clare Furness from Kingston Beach Golf Club took the honours in the B Grade (32) with Tania Easton on second place with 30 points.
Mary Taylor just beat Jan Macaulay to take first prize in the 9 hole women’s stableford.
The Men’s scroungers was kindly sponsored by “The Stickpickers”, our group of veteran volunteers who, amongst other work, keep the course free of fallen branches.
Daniel Hunt just pipped Mick Herbert for first place, both with 41 points, Scroungers Captain Ray Barker scored one point less for third place.
Jim Taylor was top man at the Friday mixed competition by just getting the better of Gerry Hunt, both with 18.
Di Yates was overall third and first woman with one point less.
The Edwards Wines Men’s stableford was played on Saturday in better weather conditions than expected.
Bill Smith took home first prize (37), Peter Nicholls scored well enough for second place with one point less and Mick Herbert was rewarded third prize with 35 points.
Sunday was a big day for the Men’s Foursomes Championships kindly sponsored by veteran Laurie Bedford, who unfortunately was not able to participate due to injury.
It was a little wild and wet at times but the boys persevered and a cup of homemade soup kept them going for the 36 holes.
Junior and women’s coach Mike Skivinis together with Stu Currell won the overall gross and nett with a score of 170.
Dave Glasson and John Bell scored the runner up title with 178.
As rules only permit winners to go home with one prize, Ray Scott and Graeme Bedggood were awarded overall Nett Winners on 158 followed by Rhys Owen and Bill Smith (159).
